  • Stroke
  • Cancer

  • Alzheimer’s
  • Accidental injury

Dr. Feliz-Cruz provides services to help you avoid these tragic conditions. Through regular screenings and lab work, she takes a preventive stance toward women’s health issues. She can also help you reduce your controllable risk factors for disease through:

  • Exercise
  • Stress reduction

Those simple preventive methods effectively improve your quality of life.

What happens during a well-woman exam?

At your well-woman exam, Dr. Feliz-Cruz asks about your personal and family medical history as well as your sexual history. She asks if you have any concerns such as pain during intercourse or low libido.

Then, Dr. Feliz-Cruz takes your vital signs and provides a physical examination. She checks your abdomen and lymph nodes and listens to your heart and lungs. Depending on your age and health status, she may perform a pelvic exam, Pap smear, or breast exam.

If your sexual history indicates concerns, Dr. Feliz-Cruz may order lab work to test for sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). Most STDs are detectable through blood tests or urinalysis.

The well-woman exam isn’t a replacement for your yearly physical; however, many women schedule both at the same time. Feel free to bring up any health concerns you have to Dr. Feliz-Cruz at your well-woman exam because she can coordinate your care.

What screenings are recommended for women?

Dr. Feliz-Cruz takes your current health and medical history into consideration to determine how often you should get a screening. Current recommendations for most women include:

  • A pelvic exam every year for women over 21
  • A Pap test every three years for women ages 21-29
  • Women ages 30-64 should get a Pap and HPV test every five years
  • Clinical breast exams every year for women over 40
  • Women ages 20-39 should have a clinical breast exam every 1-3 years
